"Slovenia’s declaration of independence from the Republic of Yugoslavia in 1991 marked the start of the dismantling of the former Yugoslavia. Croatia and Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH) followed suit. The fighting between Slovenia and the Yugoslav People’s Army lasted only 10 days, but the brutal wars fought in Croatia and BiH (begun in 1991 and 1992 respectively) dragged on until 1995. Fighting in Kosovo lasted from 1998 to 1999.

In programming Kinoscope this year, we found ourselves unconsciously veering towards work from young new film-makers. We only realized this when the programme was complete – 12 out of the 19 features are from first- and second-time directors – but perhaps the nature of a festival programmer is to be surprised and delighted by fresh visions and new voices, so in retrospect it’s perhaps not that much of a shock. That’s not to say that we haven’t included some of the world’s most celebrated names.

Continuing the success of last year’s partnership with the Doha Film Institute (DFI), this year the Sarajevo Film Festival (SFF) will work with Instituto Mexicano de Cinematografía(IMCINE) in order to bring Mexican films to the audiences of SFF. This is another step of SFF’s initiative to expand its network across continents and create new collaborations over the European borders, and its aim to support and connect emerging film professionals and filmmakers worldwide.

Bosnian avant premiere of film BRIDGES OF SARAJEVO / LES PONTS DE SARAJEVO, produced by Obala Art Center Sarajevo and French Production Company Cinétévé, was held on 27th June in Cinema Meeting Point in Sarajevo as part of the Sarajevo Heart of Europe celebration.
The workshops intended to develop the projects included in this year's CineLink selection were held in the Admiral Grand Hotel in Slano in the period from 1st to 5th of June. CineLink workshops were held as part of Dubrovnik Film Meeting supported by Croatian Audiovisual Centre, Municipality of Dubrovačko primorje and the Tourist Board of the Municipality of Dubrovačko primorje.
CineLink 2014 call for entries attracted over 200 projects in development from 18 different countries in Southeastern Europe. Our selection committee selected 14 projects altogether for the CineLink and the CineLink Plus lineups, criteria being respective authors potential and strength of the story on one side and potential benefit for the project from our development workshops and the coproduction market on the other.
