Docu Rough Cut Boutique 2022 opens for submissions!

Organized by Sarajevo Film Festival and Balkan Documentary Center, Docu Rough Cut Boutique is a platform dedicated to documentary projects in the advanced phase of the editing process

We are still living through unprecedented challenges, but we hope to see the light in the tunnel very soon.  We are delighted that alumni from the last two years premiered at festivals such as IDFA, Hot Docs, Dok Leipzig, BFI London, Sheffield DocFest and Sarajevo Film Festival.

Organized by Sarajevo Film Festival and Balkan Documentary Center, Docu Rough Cut Boutique is a platform dedicated to documentary projects in the advanced phase of the editing process.

Previous projects that have participated at the Docu Rough Cut Boutique include among others: HER MOTHERS (Hot Docs 2020), HOLY FATHER (Sarajevo FF 2020), THE OTHER SIDE OF EVERYTHING by Mila Turajlić, (Winner of the Best Feature-Length Documentary at IDFA), THE MAGIC LIFE OF V by Tonislav Hristov (World Cinema Documentary Competition at Sundance Film Festival), SRBENKA (awarded at Visions du Reel) SOFIA'S LAST AMBULANCE (La Semaine de la Critique Cannes), TOTO AND HIS SISTERS (Tribeca Film Festival).

One of the latest alumni Srdjan Keca, just recently premiered his film “Museum of Revolution” at IDFA 2021 and, shared with us his experience:

“Docu Rough Cut Boutique arrived at just the right moment for our film, and with each workshop gave us fresh energy and confidence. I enjoyed the friendly atmosphere and the immediacy of interaction facilitated by Rada and Martichka. Despite the online format in 2020, both the encouragement from peers and the excellent questions posed by the tutors stayed with me long into the postproduction process. It took us another year after the last workshop to finish the film, but all the right seeds were planted in those long Zoom conversations.”

With this in mind, we would like to invite you to submit your rough cuts for our 12th edition in 2022!

We work on our formula to improve and perfect it from year to year. We are offering the maximum of our abilities to our project teams. Our team is very eager to see your upcoming documentaries and provides tailor-made training for five projects from the region of South-East Europe. The workshop will take place in three parts and to apply, you have to submit a minimum of 60 minutes material.

The programme is organized in three working modules: Budapest (March 2022 – online or hybrid), Sofia (June 2022 – online or residential) and Sarajevo (August 2021 – residential). The workshop progamme includes editing tutorials, group sessions and individual meetings with renowned documentary experts and professionals. The programme culminates at the Sarajevo Film Festival. Five projects will be presented to the CineLink Industry Days decision makers (funders, sales agents, distributors, broadcasters, and festival programmers) to assist their completion and enhance their distribution and festival presentation possibilities.

The submission deadline is February 7, 2022.
