Mentors 2017

Story Editors:

– is an independent producer and director, focusing on documentaries. She has produced among others A Film Unfinished, which won the first prize at HotDocs, the editing prize at Sundance and the script award at Silverdocs. She is the director of Born in Berlin, Cordelia, Angelika and Inge, Brueckenschlag and many others. She teaches since 2000 creative production and media landscape at the Film Department of the Tel Aviv University. Between 2007 and 2015 she was head of the Film Department of the Faculty of Arts – Midrasha, Beit Berl College.

- is a writer, director and editor. She is the creator of Lipstick On My Keyboard, which includes the interactive social media video novels Box of Birds, The Currency of Despair, and Unfated Yet, featuring Werner Herzog. As a film editor, she has edited 8 feature length documentaries, including two with Herzog. Her own work explores female sexuality, addiction, depression, friendship and creativity. She believes in doing it yourself and wants to teach others to do the same.

– is a freelance film editor and author. His work covers a wide range of genres - fiction, documentaries and also animation. He is head of the Film editing faculty at the Budapest Film Academy and the editor of HBO Europe documentaries like Invisible Strings, Overdose, Stream Of Love and Ultra. The film Drifter, which he also edited, won the First Appearance Award at IDFA 2014. For the editing of the film The Queen of Silence he was awarded with the German Kamerapreis for Best Editing 2015.

Mentors at the Docu Rough Cut Boutique:

– is the head of the documentary distribution company CAT&Docs, which is looking for pertinent and impertinent docs on topical questions and timeless subjects; docs that are carefully researched, open to the diversity of the world and that have their place on the international scene. Docs that keep us from closing our eyes. Some of the titles from their catalogue are: Houston We Have A Problem, Sonita, A Syrian Love Story, Don Juan, Citizenfour, Of Men And War, Tea Time, Waiting For Giraffes, 5 Broken Cameras, just to name a few.

– is the Executive Producer of Documentaries for HBO Europe. Based in the Prague office, she works closely with HBO Europe’s production centers and is responsible for the development and production of HBO Europe’s documentary films. The documentaries she commissions and co-produces are giving strong insights into its subject, creating debates, showing a different perspective, and are daring, creative and innovative. HBO documentaries are mainly character driven stories with a strong narrative and high production values. That is why many of films she co-produces are very successful worldwide and have won many awards in international festivals.

– is a co-founder of STEFILM and is working as a director and producer. Since 1988 he has produced several one-off documentaries and directed 5 documentary series. His most recent feature films include Vinylmania, Char, No Man’s Island, The Queen Of Silence. In 1992 he graduated from the MEDIA training course EAVE. Founder member of FERT, he directed 17 editions of the annual Italian workshop DOCUMENTARY IN EUROPE. He chaired EDN and is national coordinator for Input, Television in the Public Interest.

Moderators and Heads of the Docu Rough Cut Boutique:

– is producer of AGITPROP since 1999. Among her films are: Georgi And The Butterflies (Silver Wolf, IDFA 2004), The Mosquito Problem and other stories (Cannes 2007), The Ladino Ladies' Club (IDFA 2015). She is founder and director of the Balkan Documentary Center (BDC) for supporting documentary filmmakers from the Balkans. She is member of EDN Executive Committee and the Management Board of DokuFest, Prizren. She is lecturer at various workshops in the field of documentary cinema. Martichka received the International Trailblazer Award at MIPDOC in Cannes for creativity, innovation, originality and breakthrough in the field of documentary cinema.

RADA ŠEŠIĆ (Netherlands)
– is a filmmaker, critic, lecturer and curator, who lived in Sarajevo (B&H) and is based now in Utrecht. She is the programmer of the Documentary Competition at Sarajevo FF and collaborates on the selection of films at the two biggest film festivals in The Netherlands: IDFA in Amsterdam and IFFR Rotterdam. Rada is on the selection of IDFA Bertha and Hubert Bals Fund. Her documentary and dance films were screened at 60 festivals, awarded and bought by MoMA. Mentors extensively at documentary workshops in Europe and Asia. At Trieste Festival she heads Last Stop Trieste and is artistic director of Eastern Neighbours FF in The Hague. Rada has been teaching at the University of Amsterdam and is currently mentoring at The Master of Film at NFTA Amsterdam.
