WIELAND SPECK

After completing studies in German literature, theatre arts and ethnology at Berlin’s Free University, and studying film directing at the San Francisco Art Institute, Speck moved to the world and industry of film, where he has worked in many areas. He has made a number of short films, such as DAVID, MONTGOMERY UND ICH, ROOM 303 and others. His work also includes documentaries such as ESCAPE TO LIFE - THE ERIKA AND KLAUS MANN STORY, as well as socially relevant videos, such as SAFER SEX PROMOTION series, which were created to promote AIDS prevention and protection. He is also the director of the awarded 1985 film WESTLER: EAST OF THE WALL. He currently teaches at the DFFB Academy of Film and Television, and at Berlin’s Free University. He was appointed Director of the Panorama programme at the International Berlin Film Festival in 1992, and has remained there ever since.
