QUEEN AT SEA Gala Screening

At a gala screening held tonight at the National Theater Sarajevo, the 32nd Sarajevo Film Festival welcomed director Lance Hammer ahead of screening his award-winning film QUEEN AT SEA.

Tonight at the National Theater Sarajevo a gala screening of QUEEN AT SEA was held. The screening was also attended by director Lance Hammer. He was welcomed to the 32nd Sarajevo Film Festival by festival programmer Elma Tataragić.

“This is not a regional film, but when we saw this film in Berlin this year, it was a very unique experience for us and we knew we wanted to show this film here. This film won several awards. It won the Silver Bear jury prize and the Silver Bear for Best Supporting performance shared jointly by the cast members Anna Calder - Marshall and Tom Courtenay for their performance as an elderly married couple.” said Tataragić.

Lance Hammer addressed the audience before the screening. He pointed out that it is a great honor for him that QUEEN AT SEA is being shown in Sarajevo. “I’ve always wanted to have my film played here. It is a city of people that have great beauty, great soul and I love it here. Thank you to the Festival for having us and supporting us. This is a challenging subject and the film works because of the tremendous cast we had a pleasure of working with. We worked at this film as a family and I think that a truth comes out on that, one that you can’t write and direct.” said Hammer.

The film follows Amanda and her stepfather Martin’s struggle with a moral issue that divides them. Has Amanda’s mother, who is experiencing advanced dementia, lost the ability to make critical decisions in her own best interest? If so, who is responsible – a spouse, a child, an institution – for making such a determination? As Amanda and Martin are forced to make increasingly difficult choices, the repercussions spiral out of their control. The cast of the film is Juliette Binoche, Tom Courtenay, Anna Calder-Marshall and Florence Hunt.
