Special Youth Perspectives Award: Jury and Films in Competition
The award is given to a film that explores the role of young people in shaping societies and democracies, their experiences and aspirations, and the issues that concern them most.
This year, the Sarajevo Film Festival and the Council of Europe are once again presenting the Special Youth Perspectives Award, which will be presented at the official award ceremony of the 32nd Sarajevo Film Festival. This award focuses on the perspectives and approaches of young people in dealing with current challenges, as well as the expectations of future generations.
The award is given to a film that explores the role of young people in shaping societies and democracies, their experiences and aspirations, and the issues that concern them most. The prize fund amounts to 7,500 euros.
The Special Youth Perspectives Award Jury at the 32nd Sarajevo Film Festival will include director Vinko Brešan, public policy and advocacy expert Andrei Dragoș Tarta, and director Georgi M. Unkovski.
Vinko Brešan
Director, Croatia
Vinko Brešan was born in Zagreb in 1964. His low-budget debut feature, How the War Started on My Island, remains one of the most widely attended films in Croatian cinemas. His films Marshal and Witnesses received awards at the Berlin and Karlovy Vary film festivals. His film The Priest’s Children was nominated for the European Film Award for Best Comedy. The television series The Diary of Great Perica, which he directed and co-wrote, received the Heart of Sarajevo Award for Best Comedy Series, as well as the Heart of Europe Award for Best Television Series in Eastern Europe in 2021. Besides film, Vinko Brešan also successfully directs for the theatre.
Andrei Dragoș Tarta
Public Policy and Advocacy Expert, Romania
Andrei Dragoș Tarta is a public policy and advocacy expert from Romania. As a member of the Advisory Council on Youth, he works at the intersection of youth rights, democratic participation, and European policy, guided by a firm belief that culture creates a space for connection. A passionate advocate for the arts, music, and film, he is particularly interested in how contemporary culture reflects our understanding of the times and places we inhabit.
Georgi M. Unkovski
Director, North Macedonia
Georgi Malinski Unkovski is a Macedonian filmmaker, born in New York in 1988 and raised in North Macedonia. He holds a degree in Fine Arts from the Eastman School of Photograph (RIT) in New York, and an MA from FAMU in Prague. After the success of his short film Sticker, his debut feature film, DJ Ahmet, had its world premiere at the 2025 Sundance Film Festival, where it received the Audience Award and the Special Jury Award. The film continued its successful festival journey at the 31st Sarajevo Film Festival, where it won the Special Youth Perspectives Award and the Cineuropa Award.
