Film "ONCE UPON A TIME IN ANATOLIA" by Nuri Bilge Ceylan in the Open Air Programme

Sarajevo Film Festival has a great pleasure to announce that among the titles from this year’s Open Air Programme will be ONCE UPON A TIME IN ANATOLIA by one of the most prominent authors of today, Turkish director Nuri Bilge Ceylan.

This film will be presented to the Sarajevo audience in the !hej Open Air Cinema by the director Ceylan and the numerous crew, leading protagonists of the film: Muhammet Uzuner, Yılmaz Erdoğan, Taner Birsel, Ahmet Mümtaz Taylan and Ercan Kesal. The arrival of the crew of the film ONCE UPON A TIME IN ANATOLIA at the Sarajevo Film Festival attracted also a large number of Turkish media which are coming to Sarajevo in order to follow the premiere screening of the film and presentation of the crew on the Sarajevo Red Carpet.

This film is the winner of the Grand Prix award at the 64th Cannes Film Festival. ONCE UPON A TIME IN ANATOLIA won also the highest rate by the jury critique of the prestigious film magazine Screen International, who rated realizations from the competition programme of this year’s Cannes Film Festival. Greatest pleasure for the Sarajevo Film Festival is the fact that in this year’s Open Air Programme it will present the film in whose co-production our country also took part. Namely, co-producer of the film ONCE UPON A TIME IN ANATOLIA is the BH production house 2006., and the film was also supported by the Foundation for Cinematography Sarajevo and BHRT.

Co-production of BiH in this project is the result of, among other things, many years of cooperation between the eminent Turkish director and the Sarajevo Film Festival. Special relevance for the Sarajevo Film Festival has also the fact that the cooperation with Ceylan is only one more proof of successful cooperation with film authors from other countries and the indicator of necessity for development and strengthening such ties, which Sarajevo Film Festival, as the regional meeting point of the film professionals, encourages and develops.

Nuri Bilge Ceylan, is the director known to the Sarajevo audience from before. His film THREE MONKEYS, for which he won the Best Director award at the 2008 Cannes Film Festival, was screened within the Open Air programme within the 14th Sarajevo Film Festival, while the same year Ceylan was the President of the Jury of the Competition Programme of the Sarajevo Film Festival.

ONCE UPON A TIME IN ANATOLIA is the fourth feature film by Nuri Bilge Ceylan screened and awarded at the Cannes Film Festival. For the film THREE MONKEYS Ceylan won the Best Director award in Cannes in 2008, and for the film CLIMATES he was awarded the FIPRESCI award in 2006, while his film DISTANT was awarded the Grand Prix and the Best Actor Award was distributed between Muzaffer Özdemir and Emin Toprak in 2003.
