
Susanne Bier to Present “IN A BETTER WORLD“ at the Panorama Closing
In its 17th edition, Sarajevo Film Festival will host prominent Danish director Susanne Bier. Bier will present her Academy Award winning film IN A BETTER WORLD (Best Foreign Language Film) to the Sarajevo audience at the closing of the Panorama Programme.
Susanne Bier sprang into fame with her romantic comedy THE ONE AND ONLY (1999) which became the most successful Danish film of the decade. However, the real affirmation on international arena she started gaining from year 2004, with the multiple awarded trilogy of films in which she combines drama of high concept and global-political engagement.
These are the films: BROTHERS (Ulrich Thomsen, Nikolaj Lie Kaas, and Connie Nielsen, 2004), AFTER THE WEDDING (Mads Mikkelsen, Sidse Babett Knudsen, and Rolf Lassgård, 2006), and IN A BETTER WORLD (Mikael Persbrandt, Trine Dyrholm, and Markus Rygaard, 2010) which she made in cooperation with the screenwriter Anders Thomas Jensen.
Susanne Bier’s filmography, among others, includes also the multiple awarded films FREUD LEAVING HOME (1991), FAMILY MATTERS (1994), LIKE IT NEVER WAS BEFORE (1995), and THINGS WE LOST IN THE FIRE (2007).
Currently, Susanne Bier is filming the ALL YOU NEED IS LOVE with Pierce Brosnan, Sebastian Jesen, and Christiane Schaumburg-Müller. In this film as well, she cooperates with the screenwriter Anders Thomas Jensen.
According to the Panorama Programmer, Howard Feinstein, film IN A BETTER WORLD, which will be screened at the closing of this year’s Panorama “A film about family issues placed in a broader social context, the title IN A BETTER WORLD reflects how much Bier and regular screenwriter Anders Thomas Jensen long for one”.
