Semih Kaplanoglu’s Lecture at the Sarajevo Talent Campus
Introductory lecture of the 4th Sarajevo Talent Campus was delivered by the eminent Turkish director Semih Kaplanoglu, author of the film trilogy MILK / EGG / HONEY. His latest film from the trilogy – HONEY, was screened on Friday evening, within the Open Air Programme.
Kaplaonglu opened the lecture with his viewpoints on the meeting between traditional values, on one hand, and influences of Western culture, on the other; topic that pervades his entire film work.
A large proportion of his lecture Kaplanoglu dedicated to all the aspects of the work on the trilogy MILK / EGG / HONEY, which was crowned with the Golden Bear at the 60th Berlinale (for the film HONEY). His explanation why he doesn’t use music in his films was also very interesting.
“I prefer to use certain elements from the nature and facial expressions in dramaturgical structure of the film, in order to achieve the same effect for which many use music”, concluded Kaplanoglu.
The lecture was held at the Academy of Performing Arts with the talents and numerous guests of the Programme being present.
