A story about a distant family - two sisters, Nesrin and Gusin, and their brother Mehmet, who live their comfortable and active lives in Istanbul. When the three discover that their mother has disappeared, they go back to a small coastal town to find her. As they travel through the countryside they realize that they are foreigners in their own homeland, knowing about it as much as they know about each other - almost nothing. The worst thing is that they have grown distant from themselves, from the dreams they abandoned on account of bias, nihilism and acceptance of a status quo. The search for their other becomes a spiritual journey through their own souls, uncovering different parts of their own personalities through the poetic landscapes of rural Turkey. The film deals with several paradoxes, including the one that communication is easiest between the oldest and the younger's. Nusrat's children are unable to identify themselves with her emotions, but her grandson Murat certainly can: the two of them express emotions in a very moving way and this common trait ultimately brings them together and leads them to total mutual understanding. The director uses this family drama as a metaphor for all the bad aspects of modern life, but also for the hope that inevitably appears.
