3rd Sarajevo Talent Campus participants selected
Following the closing of this year's Sarajevo Talent Campus Call for Entries, which was opened until June 2nd, the applicants have been selected to participate in this year’s edition of the Sarajevo Film Festival’s educational programme dedicated to young filmmakers from the countries of South-Eastern Europe.
The Selection Committee members: Izeta Građević, Sarajevo Film Festival Creative Director, Elma Tataragić, Competition Programme Selector, Jovan Marjanović, the SFF's Industry Sector Manager, and Amra Bakšić Čamo, Head of CineLink, have chosen 82 applicants to take part in the 3rd Sarajevo Talent Campus. The participants are coming from Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Croatia, Greece, Hungary, Macedonia, Montenegro, Romania, Slovenia, Serbia, Turkey, and UNMI Kosovo.
This educational programme, dedicated to networking of young filmmakers from the countries of the region, launched in 2007 in cooperation with the Berlin International Film Festival and the Berlinale Talent Campus, is providing talents with the opportunity to gain knowledge from the prominent film experts, as well as to become a part of the European and world film industry network. High quality programme which consists of the series of workshops, discussions, and screenings, together with the presence of renowned film professionals as Campus lecturers, are the reasons for growing interest in participation in the Campus. The evidence of this is the record number of 191 applications to this year’s Call for Entries.
Comparative analysis of applications received in 2008 and 2009, has shown significant increase of interest by applicants, particularly from Serbia, Turkey, and Romania, whereas the largest number of applications was again received from Croatia. Twenty young scriptwriters have been selected for participation in 2009 Sarajevo Talent Campus (5 from Romania, 3 each from Serbia and Croatia, 2 each from Slovenia, Hungary, and Macedonia, and 1 each from Albania, BiH, Greece, Montenegro, and Turkey). Participants of this year’s Campus are also twenty producers (8 from Croatia, 5 from BiH, 2 each from Bulgaria and Serbia, and 1 each from Hungary, Romania, and Slovenia), as well as twenty actors (5 coming each from Croatia and Serbia, 4 from Slovenia, 2 each from BiH and Macedonia, and 1 each from Greece and Romania). Twenty two young film directors will also take part in this year’s Campus (4 coming each from BiH and Serbia, 3 from Romania, 2 each from Turkey, Slovenia and Croatia, as well as one each from Bulgaria, Greece, Hungary, UNMI Kosovo, and Montenegro).
Young talents who will gather at this year’s Sarajevo Talent Campus will take part in intensive seven-day programme of workshops, lectures, and excursion trips, and thus gain additional knowledge and experience, as well as the opportunity to make contacts with regional and world film stars, and their colleagues from the region, to exchange ideas, and develop their own creativity. Additionally, after the completion of the educational programme, the Campus participants are offered with the possibility to apply for participation in the Sarajevo City of Film Project, which enables them to make short feature films.
Sarajevo Talent Campus will take place from August 14th to 20th, 2009. In its third edition it is going to continue with the high-quality programme, as it was the case last year when its lecturers were Academy Award winners Charlie Kaufman, Kevin Spacey, Branko Lustig, Danis Tanović; respectable and many award-winning filmmakers such as Nuri Bilge Ceylan, Mike Leigh, Terry George, Aida Begić, Goran Rušinović, as well as many other successful film professionals.
Focus of this year’s Campus is on providing talented authors with the opportunity to discover how to become a part of the regional film industry, to find out the direction where that industry is heading to, and how to strengthen the connections with the global film network.
