15th SARAJEVO FILM FESTIVAL FINAL REPORT
Sarajevo Film Festival is an international film festival with a special focus on the region of South Eastern Europe.
High quality programming (12 programme sections), a strong industry segment (CineLink), an educational platform for young filmmakers (Sarajevo Talent Campus) and presence of the international film industry, film authors and media representatives alongside a paying audience of over 100.000, confirm its status as the leading film festival in the region, recognised by both professionals and the wider audiences.
In an emerging territory of more than 140 million inhabitants, Sarajevo Film Festival serves as a common platform for film businesses from all over the region, setting the future standards in festival organisation, film promotion and presentation in Southeast Europe.

The Award is offered in recognition of the recipient’s outstanding contribution to film industry and support in development of the Sarajevo Film Festival.
Through the commitment and vision of its leading executive, the MDM Fund has played a significant role in aiding the development of regional film industry through numerous co-productions facilitated through the festival’s Industry Section and CineLink Project. Over the past 5 years, MDM has supported an outstanding 31 regional films, while their participation at the Sarajevo Film Festival, guided by the immense enthusiasm of Manfred Schmidt, has demonstrated a common understanding and recognition of potential that led to the realization of 5 CineLink projects that went on to screen at festivals around the world and receive numerous awards and critical recognition. MDM further supported two of the most recent Bosnia and Herzegovina films, „Snow“ by Aida Begic and „On The Path“ by Jasmila Zbanic. Though all this, Sarajevo Film Festival recognizes the immense contribution of Manfred Schmidt and MDM towards not only the enablement and promotion of this region’s cinema and authors but also the enrichment of the international film scene with new voices, outlooks and film language.

Regional Forum
The Sarajevo Film Festival and Screen International hosted a Regional Forum on the state of the film industry in South-East Europe.
The Regional Forum, organized by the Sarajevo Film Festival in cooperation with one of the leading international magazines in the film industry, was held between 16 and 18 August 2009 as part of the CineLink Co-production Market.
The Forum was conceived as a platform that opens the floor for discussion between prominent national and regional film organizations and film professionals from South-East Europe, promotes the harmonization of national film policies, and creates possibilities for the exchange of ideas and good film practices.This pilot-project covered the following topics:

3rd SARAJEVO TALENT CAMPUS
The third edition of the Sarajevo Talent Campus, held between 14 and 20 August 2009, continued the practice developed during the previous two years of offering a high quality programme.
Focus of this year’s Campus is on providing talented authors with the opportunity to discover how to become a part of the regional film industry, to find out the direction where that industry is heading to, and how to strengthen the connections with the global film network.

New Currents presented its viewers 8 films. These were pieces with strong character- demanding and disturbing films hailing from all horizons.
NEW CURRENTS - SHORTS
This year’s New Currents-Shorts maintained its continuity in searching for provocative, creative, humorous and poetic films. Audience had a chance to see 21 films within this programme.
PANORAMA
Panorama, gave its audiences the chance to see 15 films. Since 1999, Panorama has strived to bridge avant-garde and mainstream films with exceptional narrative films. Invited directors range from debuting filmmakers to established veterans. The extraordinary quality of work determines its inclusion. Many of the films have been honored at top festivals.
PANORAMA DOCUMENTARIES
Panorama Documentaries offered its audiences 15 of the best documentary films from around the world. The popular Panorama Documentaries strand covers the whole world except for regional works, with all filmmakers present to discuss their films.
OPEN AIR
This year’s Heineken Open Air was a first-class venture that satisfied the tastes of even the most passionate film lovers. We should also mention that almost all the films in the programme were introduced by either its actors or directors. This cinema, that attracted 3,000 viewer each Festival night, once again offered the unforgettable experience of seeing films beneath a starlight sky on the one of the largest cinema screen in the region.
CHILDREN’S PROGRAMME
This year’s Children’s Programme at SFF showcased 9 features and animated films geared to our youngest viewers. It also hosted the 4th Orbico Family Day at Sarajevo’s Vilsonovo Promenade.
TEENARENA
For the fifth year, Sarajevo Film Festival presented TeenArena, programme whose films are devoted to teenage viewers. This year’s TeenArena encompassed 7 films, with the Best Teen Film Award, according to the verdict of a teen jury and viewers’ choice, going to “Mary and Max“.

4TH NATIONAL FILM FESTIVAL OF BOSNIA AND HERZEGOVINA
In cooperation with the Sarajevo Film Festival, the Association of Filmmakers of Bosnia and Herzegovina organized this year the fourth edition of the National Film Festival of B&H.
The aim of this year’s festival is to showcase all the films produced in Bosnia and Herzegovina in 2008 and 2009. This year’s edition, in its five days, presented 52 films: 2 features, 24 documentaries, 12 short and animated films, and 14 films by students of the Sarajevo Academy of Dramatic Arts and the Banja Luka Academy of Arts. The Festival with the cooperation of the Sarajevo Cinematography Fund, the BiH Ministry of Civil Affairs, and the U.S. Embassy in Bosnia.
