Sarajevo Talent Campus
The Sarajevo Talent Campus is a platform for upcoming and talented film professionals eager to learn from established film professionals willing to share their knowledge, all taking place during and closely linked to all parts of the Sarajevo Film Festival.
The Sarajevo Talent Campus seeks to allow young film talents the access to further education, an entry to the network of European and international film industry, and an incentive to create their first joint projects with colleagues from the Southeastern Europe.
The programme of Sarajevo Talent Campus is open to young film professionals and film students in final years of their study from thirteen countries: Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Croatia, Greece, Hungary, Macedonia, Montenegro, Romania, Serbia, Slovenia, Turkey and UNMI Kosovo. In cooperation with Robert Bosch Stiftung, ten young film producers from Germany come to attend Sarajevo Talent Campus, where they have Sarajevo Talent Campus special guests` status. Through this initiative, the basis for future European film co-productions is established.
During the seven-day event, through a programme of workshops, lectures, inter-festival excursions, panels and practical tutorials, young artists from Southeastern Europe get the opportunity to exchange views and ideas among themselves and film professionals from different parts of the world.
The programme of Sarajevo Talent Campus is open to the following professional fields:
• Directing
• Producing
• Acting
• Scriptwriting (from 2008)
Sarajevo Film Festival was able to utilize its regional and international credentials as well as the creation of a coherent and ambitious programme to secure participation of a number of this region’s and the world’s most prominent and renowned film professionals and artists. Among the experts and lecturers working with the young talents at the Sarajevo Talent Campus were Academy Award Winners Alexander Payne, Jeremy Irons, Charlie Kaufman, Juliette Binoche, Danis Tanović, Michael Moore, Branko Lustig, Kevin Spacey; highly acclaimed and multiply awarded artists such as Steve Buscemi, Terry George, Mike Leigh, Jasmila Žbanić; this region’s most successful filmmakers and film professionals Ademir Kenović, Čedomir Kolar, Pjer Žalica, Leon Lučev, Aida Begić and many more.
The Talent Campus curriculum is structured as a seven-day intensive session of:
• Lectures (open to all participants, guests and public) and specialized master classes for each discipline (directing, producing, acting and scriptwriting)
• Practical Workshops designed for small teams with the goal to produce tangible results during the Campus
• Discussions and Interviews with film experts
• Screenings of films on lectures and workshops related subjects
• Excursions to CineLink co-production Market
Sarajevo Talent Campus aims to enhance theoretical and practical education of young film professionals through its program of intensive workshops, lectures, panel discussions. Designed to fill the gap between formal education and its practical application – the production of short and feature-length films – Sarajevo Talent Campus seeks to create connections not only among young film students, but also between them and experienced film professionals such as producers, directors, scriptwriters, actors, film theorists, casting directors, etc.
Since the region is a rich source of inspiring stories, young promising authors are, through this initiative, encouraged to make the first step towards the realization of their film stories.
Practical application of knowledge acquired at Sarajevo Talent Campus will be in Sarajevo City of Film, which is a project created as a natural extension of the goals defined by the Sarajevo Talent Campus. Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina Government and Ministry of Culture and Sports FBiH initiated this project with the aim of utilizing experiences and knowledge gained at the Sarajevo Talent Campus for creation of low-budget short films which are shot in Sarajevo by Campus participants.
