PRESIDENT OF THE JURY

MIRJANA KARANOVIĆ
Actress, Serbia
Mirjana Karanović has appeared in numerous films and plays, achieving memorable performances.
Her debut in film came in 1980, with a lead in Srđan Karanović’s PETRIN VIJENAC (PETRIA’S WREATH). World fame came with the role of the mother in Emir Kusturica’s OTAC NA SLUŽBENOM PUTU (WHEN FATHER WAS AWAY ON BUSINESS). She has worked with many prominent Yugoslav and Serbian directors, such as Goran Marković, Lordan Zafranović, Boro Drašković, Veljko Bulajić, Žika Pavlović, Goran Paskaljević, Branko Baletić... One of her most memorable roles was the one of Esma in GRBAVICA, Bosnian director Jasmila Žbanić's debut feature and winner of the Golden Bear Award for Best Film at the Berlin International Film Festival. For this performance, Mirjana Karanović has won a number of awards at festivals in Belgium, Spain and Kazakhstan, and also a nomination for the 2006 European Film Academy Award. She played Ruža in the Swiss film DAS FRAULEIN, by Andre Štaka, which won the 12th Sarajevo Film Festival Heart of Sarajevo Award for Best Film, as well as the Grand Prix at the Locarno Film Festival.
Her theatre opus has been prolific and versatile, with several roles in both contemporary and classic theatre at the Yugoslav Drama Theatre, Zvezdara Theatre, Belgrade Drama Theatre, the Croatian National Theatre in Rijeka and many others. Her performance in the cult production of “Helver’s Night” at the Sarajevo’s Chamber Theatre also won her several notable prizes.
In 2008 she won the “Osvajanje slobode” (Winning Freedom) Award, an award presented to women whose work promotes and affirms the principles of human rights, rule of law, democracy and tolerance in society. Since 1995, she has also taught acting at Belgrade’s Academy of Arts, where she was appointed Dean in March 2009.

BENEDEK FLIEGAUF
Director, Hungary
Benedek Fliegauf is one of leading filmmakers of Hungary’s new generation. In addition to directing, he also writes scripts, designs sets, composes... His first feature film, FOREST, won international acclaim and opened doors towards a career in world cinema. His second film, DEALER, also collected many awards, and was crowned all-round winner of the Mar del Plata Festival, winning four awards, including the one for Best Film. His third film, MILKY WAY, which was screened at the 13th Sarajevo Film Festival, was awarded the prestigious Golden Leopard Award at the 2007 Locarno Film Festival. He is currently in postproduction for his fourth film and first film in English, WOMB.

CHRISTIAN JEUNE
Director of the Film Department of the Cannes Film Festival, France
Christian Jeune’s prolific experience and expertise is the result of a long career with the world’s leading film festival at Cannes. He works on presenting the Festival abroad and in locating films, focusing especially on films from Asia.
He joined the team of the most prestigious international film festival in 1983. At first, he worked in the Press Office, and has since 1995 managed the Festival’s Film Department, where he is in charge of the pre-selection and selection process. He maintains close operations with the Cannes Film Festival Director Gilles Jacob and Artistic Director Thierry Fremaux, which are considered to be among the most influential people in the world film industry. He has also translated over one hundred films from English into French.

ANAMARIA MARINCA
Actress, Romania
Anamaria Marinca caught the public eye with her performance in the British TV series SEX TRAFFIC, directed by David Yates, which also won her the 2005 BAFTA Best Actress Award. Her film debut came with Cristian Mungiu's 4 MONTHS, 3 WEEKS AND 2 DAYS, a film that won the Cannes Palme d'or and was also screened at the 13th Sarajevo Film Festival. Her role of Otilia also brought her the Stockholm International Film Festival Award. She worked with Francis Ford Coppola on YOUTH WITHOUT YOUTH, as well as on Julie Delpy’s last film THE COUNTESS. She played an outstanding role in German director Hans Christian Schmid’s film STORM, which was part of this year Berlinale Festival, and will also be presented at the 15th edition of SFF. Audience in Sarajevo will see Anamaria Marincae also in the movie FIVE MINUTES OF HEAVEN that is going to be shown in the OpenAir selection.

WIELAND SPECK
Director of Panorama Programme, Berlin International Film Festival, Germany
After completing studies in German literature, theatre arts and ethnology at Berlin's Free University, and studying film directing at the San Francisco Art Institute, Speck moved to the world and industry of film, where he has worked in many areas. He has made a number of short films, such as DAVID, MONTGOMERY UND ICH, ROOM 303 and others. His work also includes documentaries such as ESCAPE TO LIFE - THE ERIKA AND KLAUS MANN STORY, as well as socially relevant videos, such as SAFER SEX PROMOTION series, which were created to promote AIDS prevention and protection. He is also the director of the awarded 1985 film WESTLER EAST OF THE WALL. He currently teaches at the DFFB Academy of Film and Television, and at Berlin's Free University. He was appointed Director of the Panorama programme at the International Berlin Film Festival in 1992, and has remained there ever since.
