CRISTI PUIU, President of the Jury
Director, Romania
Cristi Puiu is one of the world’s leading film authors of the new generation. He debuted in 2001 with a low budged road movie STUFF AND DOUGH, which received several awards at international film festivals, and competed in the Quinzaines des Realisateurs Section of the Cannes Film Festival.
Many critics claim that this very film marked the beginning of the Romanian New Wave, which has grown up into one of the most important European cinematographies. His second achievement, short film CIGARETTES AND COFFEE, brought Puiu into the world of directing elite. This film was awarded with the Golden Bear for the best short film at 2004 Berlin Festival, as well as with the Prix UIP.
His second feature film THE DEATH OF MR. LAZARESCU, had a great success and won an impressive number of awards at festivals all over the world, opening the doors of international scene for the Romanian cinematography. Among 47 awards this film received, Prix Un Certain Regard at the Cannes Film Festival is the most important one.
THE DEATH OF MR. LAZARESCU is the first out of the series of six films about love which Puiu intends to make, inspired by a similar project by Eric Rohmer entitled SIX MORAL TALES. The second film from the series, AURORA, was screened at this year’s Cannes Film Festival within the Un Certain Regard Section.

SAADET ISIL AKSOY
Actress, Turkey
Saadet Isil Aksoy made her debut in 2007, with the first part of Semih Kaplanoglu’s trilogy EGG, which premiered at the 60th Cannes Film Festival. The role of Ayla brought her many awards, including the Heart of Sarajevo for the Best Actress at the 13th SFF, Antalya Golden Orange, and Siyad award. Her cooperation with famous Turkish director was continued in the MILK, the film which was included in the selection of the Venice Film Festival in 2008. After MILK, she took part in EASTERN PLAYS, by Bulgarian director Kamen Kalev, which was included in the Competition Programme of the 15th SFF. Her latest performance in the film by Ilksen Basarir LOVE IN ANOTHER LANGUAGE was also noticed. This role brought her awards at the festivals in Bursa and Ankara. Along with the successful film career Aksoy also works on stage and on TV, and she is currently working on her master degree on acting at Kadir Has University in Istanbul.
LEON LUČEV
Actor, Croatia
Leon Lučev is one of the best actors in the region. He performed in numerous different film, theatre, and TV roles, which have been winning the hearts of the audience, and the film critics as well. His career started in 1996 with the role in HOW THE WAR STARTED ON MY ISLAND. Since then he has been successful in a number of noticed performances in the achievements such as RUSSIAN FLESH, WITNESSES, WHAT IS A MAN WITHOUT A MOUSTACHE, as well as in films by BiH director Jasmila Žbanić, GRBAVICA, the wining film of Berlinale, and ON THE PATH, which was also included in the Berlinale Official Programme. In 2008, Lučev won two awards, Heart of Sarajevo at the 14th SFF for his performance in BUICK RIVIERA by Goran Rušinović and the Golden Arena for the Best Supporting Actor in Pula for the role in film WILL NOT END HERE by Vinko Brešan. He also played in the STORM, coproduced by Germany and Denmark, screened within the Heineken Open Air Programme of the 15th Sarajevo Film Festival.
RACHEL ROSEN
Director of Programming at San Francisco Film Society, USA
Rachel Rosen is the Director of Programming at San Francisco Film Society, which presents the San Francisco Film Festival every year. Before coming to this position, Rosen worked as the Head of Programming at Film Independent and Los Angeles Film Festival (LAFF) for eight years. During her time at the LAFF, it doubled the number of visitors with innovative programme focusing at international productions. She started her career in New York working as a publicist in film industry. Rosen also worked at different positions at New York Film Festival, New York’s Film Forum, and Tri-Star Pictures. As a Master’s candidate of documentary film at the Stanford University, she directed a short documentary SERIOUS WEATHER which was screened at festivals in Vancouver and San Francisco, as well as at the British Festival of Short Film.

CHRISTINE VACHON
Producer, USA
Christine Vachon is one of the most influential producers of independent film. She has drawn the attention of film public in the early 1990ies when she produced a controversial first feature by Todd Haynes, POISON, which was awarded the Grand Jury Prize at the Sundance Film Festival. On several occasions she again worked with Haynes, who was a guest of the 14th SFF’s Tribute To Programme. His awarded achievement, nominated for the Academy Award, FAR FROM HEAVEN, earned her an Independent Spirit Award. She has produced many acclaimed and awarded American films: BOYS DON'T CRY, ONE HOUR PHOTO, HEDWIG AND THE ANGRY INCH, HAPPINESS, VELVET GOLDMINE, SAFE, I SHOT ANDY WARHOL, GO FISH, SWOON, and I'M NOT THERE. Along with her partner Pamela Koffler, she runs Killer Films Company.
