REGIONAL FORUM ON THE FUTURE OF THE FILM INDUSTRY IN SOUTHEAST EUROPE
The environment in which films in Southeast Europe are being financed, produced, distributed and exhibited is experiencing substantial changes. While new opportunities are evident, in particular as a result of technological progress and its potential impact on a more diverse and improved access to film, the established business models are proving unsustainable, as film is not finding its fair share on screens region-wide. Between shrinking financing opportunities and an overall evolving landscape, can the industry embrace it all as an opportunity, and emerge stronger from the time of crises?
Sarajevo Film Festival and Screen International have once again teamed up to present the assembled film professionals from all spheres of the business and from all over the region, with a series of keynote speeches by the leading industry professionals, presentations of new public subsidy schemes and new business models, followed by a series of round table discussions on the burning issues the crises faced the industry with.
MINI MARKET
Minimarket represents Sarajevo Film Festival’s mutual platform for short films. The aim of the Minimarket is to increase the visibility of the films within the Festival itself and develop their promotion and future distribution.
Minimarket’s activities include: screening of the short films within all Festival programmes (Competition Programme – Short Film, New Currents – Short Film, Sarajevo City of Film), special curator programmes of the eminent short film festivals, screening within the Industry segment, and lectures and case-studies.
Minimarket also represents a place for meeting and making contact of all who deal with the short film.
4th SARAJEVO TALENT CAMPUS
Sarajevo Talent Campus took place in the period between the 25th and 31st of July, 2010.
The general topic of this year, Sarajevo Talent Campus was “Storytelling – From Your Backyard to the World”, which made the entire programme of sessions more coherent and more ambitious comparing to the previous editions. The aim was to question the process of emerging of a film story: from the initial idea, sketch, through a script, to realization and distribution of the film, in a way that actors, directors, scriptwriters, and producers contributed with their specific experience in the work, and used the multitude of gained knowledge about this process. A series of workshops, lectures, panel discussions, and case studies was designed in such a way as to answer, from different perspectives, the question how the local, specific, and authentic reach the level of universal value.
In the focus of this year’s Sarajevo Talent Campus edition, there were also the ‘networking’ contents, as well as “Pack&Pitch”, a segment within which we offered selected participants a chance to, under the professional mentorship, learn how to analyze and prepare projects for presentation. Special attention was paid to short film form as well.
