CREATIVE COLLABORATION
A Script Development & Editing Lab
Script and Story
The Sarajevo Film Festivals CineLink development platform has partnered with a London based script development company The Script Factory, along with the British Council, to run 4 Script Development and Editing Labs, one in each of the partner territories. Each partner (UK, Israel, Turkey, Bosnia & Herzegovina for former Yugoslavia) was involved in recruiting just 5 participants who just completed first of four workshops.
As well as delivering inspiring and informative training sessions this unique programme aims to ensure the creation of long-term working partnerships between a new generation of filmmakers and better understanding of the local production sector in each territory.
The single most important reason why films and television dramas fail to achieve any significant domestic or international audience (or screenplays are rejected in the first place) is that the script is not good enough. So the single most important question to address in every film and television industry is how do we make scripts better?
We have been looking for scriptwriters, film directors, creative producers, development executives or script & story editors who have a concrete & credited role in the areas here specified in production of at least 1 feature film or at least one TV drama series of a minimum of 3 episodes, and are passionate about building a career in the international film industry.
This brand new collaborative Lab starts with the principle that to write a good script the writer needs good development support. We’ll be looking to equip participants with a detailed and sophisticated understanding of how and why stories work as well as and how and why scripts work. The programme offers a range of unique and original sessions packed with information and creative tools for script developers, and offers one-to-one meetings for all participants.
The ultimate aim is to nurture and support highly skilled people in this field who can contribute to the creation of better films and TV drama for international film industry.
The Script Development & Editing Lab offers a range of highly experienced and skilled practitioners from the UK in their fields of screenwriting, producing and developing in both film and television. In providing different perspectives on screenplays, the workshop is able to offer the most complete picture of development.
The first meeting, took place from 17 - 20 August 2009 as a three-day workshop; the next three meetings take similar format, but with new trainers and content, to continually build the skills and contacts of the participants. The second workshop is in London in December 2009, the third in Istanbul in April 2010, and finally the Lab moves to Jerusalem in July 2010.
