CineLink 2008
The sixth CineLink. Number six warns us that there is no more room for beginners’ mistakes. Standards have been set and they must be observed – and yet, we fear the routine. However, the nature of the film industry in this region does not allow us to be lethargic. It started with applications for this year’s CineLink. In terms of themes, authors are moving away from issues of the immediate and turbulent past and usually opt for modernity. Thoughts about the past are there and they do affect the plotlines, but the basis of future film stories is still the present. Our 12 CineLink and 3 CineLink + projects are, as we hope, the best presentation of national film productions and the changes to be expected in the years to come.
There are novelties as well. As of this year, our project development workshop is organized in collaboration with the Binger Lab. As of this year, Arte presents one of the CineLink project prizes. This year’s partner country is Ireland.
Number six is not in itself an invitation to celebrate, to examine and self-assess. Still, it is the right moment for us to look back at the results of the past five years. 12 films made, two of them in this year’s competition programme. 17 projects in production or preproduction stage. As for next year, we anticipate our own baby boom. That is why we are launching a CineLink Work in Progress selection. We want to offer authors and producers who are in the production stage, whether CineLink projects or not, an opportunity to present their work to sales agents, festival programmers, distributors – primarily aimed at presenting regional titles at regional markets.
So, if our previous editions were an announcement of growth of regional film production, we believe that CineLink 2008 is an announcement of the directions it will take.
We wish you a successful Market and a good Festival.
